Mrs. C. K. Walker, who recently returned from Kenya Colony, is spending the winter months with Mr. and Mrs. C. jlnnes Walker, at. Te Araroa, Last Coast.

Mrs. M. Goldstino, of Inverness [Avenue. Epsom, has returned from a ■visit to Christchurch. Her father, Mr. J. jfloilander, has accompanied her on an extended visit.

A programme of games and competitions was enjoyed by a number of friends at the residence of Mrs. Mooro, junr,, of Hamilton Road, Heme Boy, on Saturday evening. Tho guests were received fcy Mrs. Moore. Among those present wove Mrs. Moore, sen., Mrs. Gallaugher, Mrs. Aitkin. Misses Fitzpatrick (2), Gallaugher, Mitchell, Bassett, Wcthcrill and Daw.

.Mrs. Desmond R. Welch, of Ilarlston Road, Mount Albert, who is leaving for 'her new home at Ngaruawahia, entertained a number of her friends at afternoon tea last week at Milne and Choyce's tearooms. Among those present wero:— Mrs. and Miss Ellison, Mesdames Stuart, Jbbotson, Clater, Day, Foy, Mulcahy, Brown, Sheffield, Mahonev, Preston, McLaughlan, Hadlow. Samson, Hoggar and Mills.

The fortnightly social and dance of the iN'ew Lynn Bowling Club was held last vreek in St. Thomas' Hall. A largo number of friends attended and a most enjoyable time was spent. Tho musical items included a solo by Mr. Barnes and a quartette by the "Lawrie Family," ■who were accompanied by Mrs. Barrett. Morrow's Orchestra played the music for dancing. Supper was provided by Mr. E. R. Edney, assisted by Mesdames JJaing and North.

On the evo of her retirement on superannuation Mrs. Thwaites, who has been postmistress at Maungaturoto for the past five years, was entertained at an "afternoon tea" in the public hall. Mr. Collins, on behalf of tho residents, presented Mrs. Thwaites with a cheque and made eulogistic reference to her unfailing courtesy while in charge of the post office. Mr. F. E. Cullen suitably responded on behalf of Mrs. Thwaites.^

A carnival night was given at the Forresters' Hall at Devonport by the North Shore Rowing Club last evening. Many novelties were introduced, which included a spotlight dance and favours. During tho evening a demonstration of the "sugar trot" was given by Miss Hopewell and her partner. The ladies' committee was as follows:—Mrs. T. C. Farquharson, Mrs. Butland, Mrs. Sharp, Miss Connie Porter, Miss Melville and Miss Tatton.

In order to raise funds for the Eversleigh Boad stall in the corning bazaar of St. Michael and All Angels Parish at Belmont, a danco was given in tho hall last evening. Tho arrangements were carried out by Mrs. R. E. Mills and Mrs. S. Dixon, with the younger members of tho church as helpers. Blue and gold streamers and bunches of gaily-coloured balloons decorated tho hall. The orchestra, with Mrs. Laurence as conductor, played tho latest dance numbers. Supper was aerved at tho conclusion of tho evening.

The Ponsonby branch of the W.C.T.U. held their fortnightly meeting in St. Stephen's Hall, Jervois Road, last week. Miss Read presided and reported that the Onehunga branch had invited the Auckland district executive to hold their annual convention there in September. The offer ■was gratefully accepted. Several ladies offered their servics to help at the iW.C.T.U. stall at the Winter Show, while others offered to help in the street collection on Friday. A very successful "Bring and Buy" sale brought the meeting to a close.
