KEARNEY. Acting-Chief Postmaster 01!DEI!S PLACED OVERSEAS. LOCAL TENDERS NOT SOUGHT GOVERNMENT'S ACT CRITICISED. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] CHRISTCIIURCII. Monday The following resolution was carried at a meeting of the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council on Saturday:—"ln view of the fact that the Government has placed orders outside New Zealand for which no employers in New Zealand were permitted to tender this council invites the co-operation of the New Zealand Iron masters' Federation, the New Zealand Manufacturers' Association and unions and associations of workers in the iron trades to join in ari effort to prohibit such works leaving New Zealand without having been first submitted to open competition. This work can be done as speedily and as well here as elsewhere Further, the council considers that this action of the Govern merit is a flagrant breach of trust which demands a pulilic inquiry It is aggravated when viewed in conjunction with the fact that New Zealand workers are unemployed and looking for work."
