AN EXHIBIT EXTRAORDINARY of Wonderful 'nn / • i >$ j 1 urktsn and Persian . . . HAND- MADE RUGS A Unique Opportunity of Acquiring a Choice Specimen [Through the courtesy of a representative of one of the world's greatest carpet merchants, we have the privilege of submitting a collection of glorious examples "of genuine hand-made Turkish and Persian Rugs—examples of the high-grade craftsmanship that would not be showing in the ordinary; course of merchandising. Altogether there are only 8 Rugs—--5 Turkish and 3 Persian To faithfully describe the* beauty of the rugs is quite impossible. A few; brief particulars may nevertheless prove interesting. A' Turkish (Anatolian) Rug, 9ft. 9in. x 13ft. sin., has a wonderfully rich cream ground centre, overworked in beautifully coloured foliage, which surrounds a medallion in blues and roses in harmony with the predominant tonings of the border. Another Turkish (Anatolian) Rug, -Bft. 2in. x 1 1 ft. 4in., has cream ground centre with allover foliage design in rich colour combinations, the border being carried out in darker tonings. A "Melas" Turkish Rug, 10ft. 4in. x 7ft. 1 in. Although a Turkish rug, this beautiful example of craftsmanship shows a distinctly Mongolian influence in its designing. Camel ground, with designing in varied blue tonngs. A Turkish "Anatolian" Rug, 9ft. x 6ft. 7in., has a rich cream ground into which is worked beautiful foliage forms of nil green and rose to match the border ings in varied blue tonings. Another glorious Anatolian Rug, I Oft. 2in. x 6ft. 7in., has cream ground with medallion and border in rich Tose tonings, relieved by touches of blue and camel. A "Mesched" Persian Rug, 12 ft. 4in. x 9ft., has a groundwork in deep blues into which are introduced medallion effects iii a wonderful variety of rich colourings. A beautiful rug for dining room or library. A "Mesched" Persian Rug, I Oft. lin. x 7ft. lin., has navy ground closely allover designed and introducing scroll devices, with strong traces of "Herati" design. Carried out in reds and blues, with cream as an outlining. Another glorious "Mesched" Persian Rug, 11 ft. Bin. x Bft. Bin., features medallion designing, with red, blue, and cream as the colour key. The close designing reveals Persian, Armenian, and Corcasian characteristics. Turkish script is woven into panel at one end. See special window; showing. Also of Particular Interest is Another Shipment ofi Hand-made Persian Rugs for Regular Stock Among them are very fine examples of "Afshar." This particular Persian rug probably occupies pride of place in the Persian productions—the straight, angular structure in the designing and the richness of colouring in both border and pile are characteristics that have a strong appeal. Several "Mosul" Rugs are included. The colouring and designs of these resemble the "Herati"—rosettes usually forming the central figures about which are grouped leaves of various shapes - some lance like, others in crumpled effect. Colourings are of a subdued nature, and very artistic. Other examples include "Beluchistan," "Shirvan, 0 * and Hamadan Zaroquart. Now, while the collection is complete is the opportune time to pay a visit of inspection. ]Fourth Floor.
