For the conclusion of the Canterbury Park meeting the sport, was of a. high standard. Dundas Boy won the Paparua Handicap with a brilliant finishing run The American reinsman. R. B- Plaxico. earned a hearty ovation when he won the Advance Handicap with Silk Thread. Mr. V. Alborn had an unlucky meeting. His horses raced very consistently, but their money-earning record was confined to thiid places, Linkman and Vesuvius being - in« that position each day and Brent Light was third to-day. Aileen Wood, who seemed somewhat unlucky to be beaten on the first day, won the Progressive Handicap in good style. She docs not stay well, but over a mile and a-half she i 3 brilliant. Delightful, who won the Harcwood Handicap, was reported to be a very brilliant two-year-old. but ho was not raced at that age. As a three-year-old he was beaten in his first effort and after winning a race ho was given a spell. Some time ago lie went into J. McKendry's stable and this was his first success in his new owner's colours. Delightful looks like- furnishing into a highgrade pacor. Sir Author accomplished a fine performance in finishing second to Delightful. ll* had to go round a big field and finished well. Dundas Boy, who has been a good winner this season, showed in the Paparua Handicap that in addition to possessing speed he is a sound stayer. Ho did not seem to be going well in the early stages, but over the last half-mile he put in fine work and stayed long enough to scoro a narrow victory. He is owned by the Auckland: sportsman Mr. G. McMillan, and is traiued by R. B. Berry at Templeton. Ho is one of the big wiariers. of the season. Trimmer h*B never been in better form and he baa bceu racing well in sprint events. Ho stayed out the journey in the Paparua Handicap much better, than was expected!

Wild Bingen, who won the Maturity Han* " '"® dicap,'is a'good-looking pacer- and seemed .1 untroubled by the-'distance. He was always 1 near the leaders and outstayed the field at the finish. Kelp, who finished second, has :|j been racing unluckily this season. He ha 3 |j given his trainer a good deal of trouble in ■ a] getting him to pace a straight course, and SI in the race to-day was hanging consider- 1 ably. He may improve with racing. ! Lady Fan, who practically won the two "1 mile harness race for trotters from start to ;.$) finish, paid a big dividend. She has been j racing for a number of years and has been ! considered only useful and best over a. milo j and a-half course. Sho saw out the two f miles in good style, although sho had had. ■■M enough at the finish. Peter Lin, after fin- ij iahing second in the milo and a-lialf trot- 'i ters' event, occupied a similar position in ;|j the Elevation Handicap. Ho began badly v:| and this cost him the race each time, lfo |l is at the top of his form. || Silk Thread has dono most of his racing ■' in the past over two-mile courses, but ho I proved in tbo Advance Handicap that ho ® can sprint with tho best. He was not t prominent till the concluding stages of . the J race, where he put on a fino run and won | easily. Since R. 13. Plazico took charge of f Mr. J. If. McKenzie's horses ho has worked J; a great improvement in Silk Thread, whom, 1 ho now has goiijg in good style. Cardinal Logan, racing over his favourite j distance, put up a good performance ; in . J the Advance Handicap. He seemed to get f into a pocket about three furlongs from i homo and this may have delayed his run | to (he post, but in any case he did not •] seem likely to beat Silk Thread. .Tho j favourite, \ esuvius, failed in the last few :l strides. "" Neerson, who was favourite for the Tele- |f graph Handicap, won after a big struggle ■{ with Grey Cloud. Neerson gave promise 5 of being a high-grade pacer, but he has ; ; not improved as much as was expected. He -j now seems to bo best over short courses. The driver of Grey Cloud was in too much .lurry to catch Neerson, and after showing a great burst of speed, he was left with no reserve at the finish. J St. Bridget, the winner of the Final Han- ] dicap, has not fulfilled her early promise I and is now chietiy raced over short courses. J White Sun seems just a useful sort who j will find it difficult to win except in mod- ! crate company. -ij 1 HAWKE'S BAY • FIXTURE. GUP WON BY ARACHNE. GREAT PARRISH SCORES AGAIN.
