SPORT AMONG TROUT.
CATCHES IN TONGARIRQ. LAST DAY OF THE SEASON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAUPO, Saturday. Somo good catches were taken in the lower reaches of tho Tongariro River yesterday, the last day of tho season. Messrs. F. Boauchamp and R. Begg, Wanganui, both caught the limit, 15 fish, in the log pool. Mr. F. Fullerton Smith, Marton, 1 took nine fish at the hut and stamp pools, and Messrs. Gordon and E. Williams, Hawko's Bay, took 17 fish at Grace's pool.
Fishing was not good further up tho river. Messrs. Deacon and Garmonsway, Tailiape, fished upstream from tho hatchery pool during tho week, and reported that' their catches were smaller than in any other season at that time, though the fish taken were in good condition. Tho river is well stocked with fish and anglers seem agreed that their general condition this has been better than last.
