DAIRY PRODUCE RETURNS.
PUBLICATION TO CEASE.. GRADING FIGURES AT AUCKLAND. Acting on tho representations of the dairy companies of tho province, the Auckland Fanners' Freezing Company has decided to cease periodical announcements of the quantities of butter and cheese graded at tho port of Auckland. It is stated on behalf of tho company that as it is not the owner of the butter which passes through its stores it must bow to the insistent request of the supplying companies, which hold the view that publication of figures indicating the volume of production is not'in tho best interests of the producers. It is suggested the information is of value to speculative and commercial interests generally. It is unofficially stated that the Dairy Produce Board is also contemplating a move along somewhat similar lines. The monthly Abstract of Statistics issued by the Government gives the information which is now to be suppressed by the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company, but tho publication is issued about six weoks after tJio close of each month. Within such a period, climatic changes often materially alter the rate of production. Tho system of issuing each fortnight a statement of tho quantities of butter and cheese graded at tho port of Auckland gave a most interesting and reliable indication of tho trend of production at short''intervals. Several representatives oF exporting firms -.stated last evening that in their opinion the prohibition of publication of grading figures would not prevent fairly accurate information finding its way regularly to England.
