INTOXICATION CHARGE.
DRIVER OF MOTOR-LORRY. COMPANION'S ALLEGED THEFT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PAPAKURA, Saturday. A motor collision on tho Great South Road, near tho Drury School, early last evening, between a light lorry proceeding to Auckland and a heavy lorry proceeding to Hamilton, had a sequel in tho arrest by Constable Holland, of Papakura, of the driver of the light lorry, George Godfrey, and his companion, Ernest McDowell, both of Auckland. The two men appeared before Mr. John McCall, J.P., in the Papakura Police Court to-day. Godfrey was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of tho lorry, and McDowell with the theft of a car-jack from a car left standing outside the hotel at Drury last evening while the occupants wore at tea. In applying for a remand to Auckland on Tuesday, Sergeant Cowan said complaint had been made of thefts from several cars left outside the Drury Hotel while tho owners were at tea last evening, and furthor charges were pending. The remand was granted.
