MILITARY REUNION.
AUCKLAND MOUNTED RIFLES. LARGE NUMBER PRESENT. A reunion of the members of the Auckland Mounted Rifles Regiment was held in the Lewis Eady Hall on Saturday evening. Through good "staff wo.rk" by Captain Sinclair Reid, "orders for the night" had been sent to all whose addresses were known —somo 700 —and no less than 300 assembled. It was a remarkable function of the kind. There were men from all parts of tho province, and cheerful greetings from others who could not bo present, ono man describing himself as'an automatic milking plant which could not bo allowed to depart from tho farm. Scores of men met for tho first time since they parted on Gallipoli or in Palestine, and they all seemed to step back through tho years. Two joyful shouts, two largo smiles, two hands gripping, followed by the inevitable "Do you • remember ?" was tho common order of things.
Colonel J. McCarroll presided. A visitor was Miss Early, who, as matron of the Aotea Roa convalescent home in Egypt, had many friends in the regiment. She was given a warm welcome, and was farewelled with cheers for herself and the Now Zealand ladies who founded the home. , , Tho silent toast of, tho dead was proposed by tho Rev. W. W. Avorill, who was a combatant officer, that of absent comrades by Captain S. Reid, and that of tho regiment by Sergeant O. U JNicol, Colonel McCarroll replying. It was decided to hold the reunion annually on Juno 1, and a complete roll of members is desired.
