ILLEGAL GAME OF CHANCE.
SHOWMAN FINED £5. [r.v TELEGRAPH.—OWN COBttESPONDE.VT. ] HAMILTON, Saturday. A showman, James Patrick King, aged 40, appeared before Mr. Wyvcrn Wilson, S.M., in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court to ilay charged with being a rogue and vagabond and with playing a game of clumco. Ho pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given by a gatekeeper at tho Waikato Winter Show that when the ball game accused was conducting in the show amusement park slack ho produced a "put-and-take" device, which proved to be a spinning dice. A demonstration was given in Court, showing that whichever way tho top was spun only small numbers caino up on top. Accused said he had been ill and asked for leniency. A fine of £5, in default ono month's imprisonment, was imposed.
