STOCK CAUGHT IN STORM.

Several mobs of sheep and a few cattle j wero on the road from Poverty Bay to Hawke's Bay last week when the storm broke in its full force, but they were not affected to such a great extent as were the passenger and mail services. About 10,000 ewes and wethers wore on the road between Poverty Bay and Hawke's Bay, orto lino comprising 4000, and also about 600 cattle, but as they travelled by stock tracks in tho back country for the most part, slips did not affect them to the same extent as if they had been on tho main highway. The swollen streams,' of course, impeded their advance, .but once these went down there was little difficulty in making the usual progress.
