DAMAGES FOR SLANDER.
PRIVILEGE PLEA FAILS. JURY'S VERDICT CONFIRMED. [.BY TKI.KGIIAI'H. —PIiE.SS ASSOCIATION.] INVERCAEGILL, Thursday Legal argument was heard by Mr. Justice Smith in the Supreme Court to-day, on the question of privilege in the use in which the Southland Farmers' Cash Supply Service sued Ronald Sim, farmer, of Otahuti, for £2OOO damages for loss of business allegedly due to a statement reflecting on the plaintiffs' business methods, made bv defendant at a meeting of the provincial executive of the Farmers' Union. The jury yesterday awarded plaintiffs £25. After hearing counsel for defendant liis Honor said he was satisfied there were no grounds for privilege. He entered judgment for the amount fixed by the jury, with costs according to scale.
