RUGBY IN AUSTRALIA.

NEW SOUTH V/ALES PROGRESS HELP FROM NEW ZEALAND. Rugby football in New South Wales has reached something like its old standard, owing chiefly to tbo loyal assistance of the New Zealand Rugby Union and the energetic support of the public schools, according to Professor H. S. Dettmann, principal of the Sydney Grammar School, and formerly of Auckland University College, who arrived from Sydney yesterday by the Ulimuroa on a holiday visit to Auckland. He said his own school, for example, had placed 10 young "old boys" in the teams which toured Great Britain and New Zealand. "Wo are looking forward to the matches against the All Blacks on the Sydney cricket ground," said Professor Detlmann. "To help the test matches we arc playing our own school matches on weekdays. As a rule they are played on Saturdays and attract many thousands of spectators, often more than arc attracted by the club matches."
