APPEAL FOR MEN'S CLOTHING.
Sir, —As the gaol chaplain. Police Court and Samaritan officer, I should esteem it a great favour if you would allow me to make an appeal for men's clothes and boots. The deplorable condition of the homeless and destitute classes is a. great problem. Among the great host of the hard-up and the destitute' whom the Army has helped are the real bottom dogs that drift helplessly, and live precariously from day to day. We do not ask a hungry man if he's a good character before we help him. Our shelter at Epsom is full of men who aro working their way back to respectability. We give to a crowd bed and breakfast each day, but we are depending upon the generosity of the public to send clothing. Will you please turn out your cupboards, overhaul your wardrobes, pack up your footwear and garments and despatch at once ? The need is really desperate, particularly in severe weather. Blankets and old rugs will be acceptable for men being sent to relief works, etc. , T. E. Holjies. - Staff Captain, Salvation Army.
