SCHEME KOR DRAINAGE. IEV TELEIiB ATH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. J HAMILTON. Wednesday. The Woodlands Swamp Amalgamation Committee met in Hamilton to-day and made preliminary arrangements for the conference to be held with the members of Parliament concerned, Government representatives and members of drainage hoards at au early date. A further meeting of (he drainage boards will be held next week to consider the proposal to put the rating of the swamp area on an acreage instead of valuation basis, besides ■dealing with other problems of amalgamation for the purpose of undertaking the big drainage scheme. It was decided to ask the Government to define the area of the watershed which will he affected by the scheme. Appreciation of the sympathetic attention given to the amalgamation proposals by the Minister of Lands, Hon. G. W. (Forbes, was expressed.
