A DEPOSED PRINCE.

SMALL STATE ABSORBED.

ANCIENT BUT TINY WALDECK

The last act of the incorporation in Prussia of the ancient but tiny State of Waldeck, with its population of 62,000, took place on April 1 in Arolsen, the capital, where for the first time the black and white flag of Prussia was hoisted. The population showed no sort of enthusiasm for the change, but on tho contrary sang the Waldeck National Anthem. They have had to consent to obsorption in Prussia because they could not afford to run their country, and they saw the close of the last chapter of its history of 800 years witlv real regret. The former Sovereign, Prince Frederick of Waldeck and Pyrmont, whose elder sister is the Dowager Queen of Holland, remains in the castle of Arolsen as a relic of the past. His former subjects, who told him that he was deposed when he refused to abdicate in November, 1918, have treated him handsomely. He and his heirs male have the right to live in the castle, whicb is kept by the taxpayer, and the family have the right to retain some 8000 acres of forest, an estate of 2000 acres, a castle and park at Bad Pyrmont, and other property.
