BOROUGH OF ONEHUNGA.
RAISING DRAINAGE LOAN
TRANSPORT BOARD MEMBER
The first meeting of the newly-elected Onehunga Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. Edward Morton, presiding. Mr. P. It. Lipscombc was appointed deputy-mayor. The town clerk, Mr. 11. A. Yockney, reported that he had advertised for objections to the drainage loan, and that none had been received. It was decided to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for authority to raise the loan.
A letter was received from Mr. F. S. Morton expressing a wish to be relieved of his position on the Transport Board as soon as a successor could lie appointed. It was decided to ask Mr. Morton to reconsider his decision. The Returned Soldiers' Association offered £45 for the employment of cxsoldiers residing in the, borough, provided that the council would subsidise it pound for pound. The offer was accepted. The Main Highways Board notified that tho council's allocation of petrol-tax rovenue for .the quarter ended March 31 last was £343.
A request from the Auckland Hockey Association for a reduction in the present charge of £3 for cutting the grass on the hockey ground was referred to the Reserves Committee.
Several complaints from ratepayers regarding' the bad condition of footpaths were referred to tho Streets Committee.
The Onehunga Free Kindergarten asked for a contribution toward the cost of erecting a building on the section it had purchased. The matter will be considered when the estimates for the current year are brought down. During the past fortnight 22 building permits were issued.
