THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

FIRM TONE ON WEDNESDAY.

A firm tone was registered, on the Auckland Stock Exchange on Wednesday. Government securities and local body and commercial debentures wdre very firm at late rates, with a sale of Gisborne Sheepfarmers' debentures at £96 10s, tho current price.

In banks National of Australasias, contributing, were done at £9 13s 6d, an advance of one shilling, and closed with buyers fthd sellers higher than on Tuesday. In the case of nearly all other banks shares w?re in demand at current to advanced rates, although Australians of Commerce were easier.

'ln insurance Australian Provincials, sought, at 9s- on Monday and 9s Id on Tuesday, had inquiry at 9s 6d,' without any selling quotations. South British, ex div., wero wanted at 63s 9d, sellers 64s 6d, compared with 65s 6d and 665, cum div., on Tuesday.

In coal Grey Valleys, which were selling a month ago at 21s 6d, advanced 2s lo sell at 245. In shipping Northerns, ordinary, were again dope at 15s, and the contributing issue rose one penny to sell ;it 7s 2d. Both issues have advanced steadily this year. In breweries New Zcalands changed hands at 61s 6d, compared with the last sale at. 62s 7gd. More were offered at 62s 3d, buyers 61s 9d.

In the miscellaneous section Taranaki Oils, which in the # past few daj's havo shown renewed activity, sold at 6s 2d at the noon call and at 6s 3d twice at the late call, compared with the last sale at 6s. More were waiitod at 6s- 2d, sellers 6s sd. Wilsons ; Cements ■ advanced 9d, selling, at 41s 9d. In .mining Alburnias, which 1 last sold at Is 'lOd, were twicb doiie at 2s 1 , the best sale for' over a year. Waihis again sold at 136 10d, and Mount Lyells. improved 9d with a transaction at 44s 6d.
