AUCKLAND ORPHANS' CLUB.
THE ANNUAL MEETING.
OFFICE-BEARERS FOR YEAR
The 37th annual-meeting of the Auckland Orphans' Club was held on Saturday evening. The president, Mr. J. B. Johnston, expressed pleasure at the large attendance.
The report expressed regret at the death of several members, notably Mr. G. F. Cater, who was conductor of the orchestra, aud Mr. W. A. Prickett, a former Consul for the United States, who was elected a life member of the club in 1808. The membership totalled 703, and the assets were assessed at £704, including £sll cash in bank. The report and bal-ance-sheet were adopted.
The election of Officers resulted:— Patron: The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson; president, Mr. J. B. Johnston; vice-presidents, Dr. C. E. Maguiro, Messrs. G. Baildon, J. Stanton, G. P. Finlay, E. Casey, G. W. Hutchison, . V. R. Meredith and C. M. Croft; committee, Messrs. W. J. Lovett, J. P. Howden, E. Winthrop, J. Robinson, D. McInness and W. Peggs; secretary, Mr. J. D. Crawford; treasurer, Mr. C. Mountain; auditors, Messrs. W. T. Brown and E. : D. Elliott; conductor of orchestra, Mr. * Harold Baxter; leader of 1 orchestra, Mr. H. Sommerville; librarian, Mr. W.i D'Authreau; and pianists, Messrs. Cyril Towsey. W. Dingle and T. Sparling. Mr. W. T. Brown was elected a life member. The session will open on Saturday, May 4. The advisability of holding a ladies', night is also to be considered.
