GOLD CLT CONTEST.

' SILVER PAPER BRILLIANT.

< REREMOANA'S FINE EFFORT.

{BY TELEGRAM. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.! , HASTINGS. Saturday. Only Aussie was reauired to make the Cold Cup field complete. Really it was a field of milers of as high class as one could wish. The race was brimful of interest- and saw yet another North Island Sold cup go to the South, through the medium ef Silver Paper, who was too brilliant over the last two furlongs. Mr 3. T. H. Lowry decorated the winner, fend handed the trophy to W. Stone, who Jvas in charge of the gelding. In the Juvenile Handicap, Hunting Bov Jvas a hot favourite, with Lordlike, \alprc snd Ben Hur the only others backed. Hunting Boy jumped out clear from 1o Awlia, King Acre, Yalpro and Lordliko. Hunting Boy and Valpre led into the straight. iValpre liad the advantage until just on the j>oßt, when Reed drove Hunting Boy up io win by a head. Ben Hur was five Jengths back third, with Clever fourth and Royal Line, King Aero and Lordlike next. Superior horsemanship won the race for Hunting Boy, and h© and Valpre outclassed jthe field. King Aero carried 121b. overweight. and is a good sort for next year. Clever finished well.

The Orrncnd Gold Cup saw Silver Paper lacked to a very short price, with solid Buuport for Toxeuma and Iteremoaua, and iho others more or less neglected. Silver Paper nnd Gascony showed out first. but Caacony was soon joined by Ciuiabue. and ithis pair showed tho way down tho back to Silver Paper and Toxeuma, with ReroJtioana and Teri bandy, and tho Hawk last. {The first two furlongs took 26s and three i*vere run in 09s. There was little change luutil the turn was approached, when Teri fran ucf outside 'of Toxeuma and Silver Paper. CimaLue and Gascony lined up !for home just ahead of Silver Paper. fToreuma and Teri, who wore in line. Ellis ifcrought Silver Paper through a little more rthiin a furlong from home, and easily settled Cimabue and Gascony over the last Qsoyds. Kerexnoana made a great effort. *nd, lugging in, had to be checked. He £nisbed very well, and ran Silver Paper Ito a neck. Toxeuma Was two lengths away ibird. A-ith Gascons about a length away fourth, and then another two lengths oway janie Teri. Cimabue was next and The Pawk last.

Silver Paper was turned out in great condition by T. F. Quinlivan, who has bad chargo* of the gelding during the past fortnight. He waa not too well* placed juat at the turn, but he forced his way throuch and galloped brilliantly in the Btraij;ht. All the same, at the actual finish he had nothing to spare from Reremoana, who looked a picture and finishod very strongly. Toxeuma showed his undoubted Quality, and ran a fine race. Gascony, having to foot it with Cimabue all the way in front, settled the chances of both, as tbey went fast for the first half-mile. A feature of the race was Teri's remarkably good showing against these horses, for at the turn he was well in the picture. The Hawk, .looking a trifle rough and burly, was always toiling i n the rear. Cashier ran a fine raco under his 9 etone in the Burke Memorial, and was jußt beaten by a good sticker in Atholspear. White Fausr waa badly ridden. Goodwill and Iresham wont good races.

The judge first hoisted Cashier as the winner, but returned to tho box and made tho correct placiijgs. /flreat Charter was at odds-on in the concluding event, and when he ran second his backers lost a considerable portion of their investments.
