SMALLPOX AT HOME.
TYPE NOT VIRULENT.
FRENCH ORDER SUSPENDED. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. LONDON, April 17. Owing to the vigorous representations made by the English railway authorities tho French vaccination order has been temporarily suspended. It is understood that the order did not apply to passengers from Australia. A British official wireless message says the Minister of Health, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, said the French Government had been given the details regarding the very restricted character of the smallpox outbreak in England. All the cases were now isolated in hospital and, as the period of incubation for tjie disease was over, there was tio reason to anticipate ariv further cases.
Nor was there anything to indicate tho disease was of the virulent type. A meeting to discuss the question was being arranged between British and French representatives. Tho infection reached Britain on a steamer which arrived at Glasgow from the East on April 1. Out of tho 1589 passengers and crew on board only 44 contracted smallpox and thfcv were all in hospital now. Vigorous measures had been taken by the Health Department to eliminate danger and there had been nothing in tho nature of an epidemic.
