For the Second High-weight Handicap at Masterton to-day Starboard Light was easily fret favourite, with Airtight and Black Mint nest in request. Staiboard Light was three lengths clear of Airtight and Elicit at the turn, with Lady Gay and Black Mint handy. Starboard Light was not troubled to win.by four lengths from Airtight. Lady Gay was half a length away, followed by Elicit and Black Mint. Starboard Light won easily, but put up for auction after the race failed to find a buyer, being passed in at 300 guineas. In the Trial Handicap High Society was fin odd3-on favourite, with Glen Dhu (lightly better backed than Glare. Glen Dhu turned for home ahead of High Society, Streamer and Golden Flower A creat race home saw Glare come through on the rails. Streamer and High Society T'ere going best of the others, with Glen Dhu and Golden Flower weakening. Glare beat Streamer home by a head, with High Society half a head away third. Tan#, Glen Dhu and Golden Flower were next Glare and Streamer both finished very well. In the Waipipi Handicap Footpad was favourite, with St. Melba, Billion and First Ruler equally backed. Spearopa led fo the turn from Footpad, First Ruler. Billion nnd Biseac. Billion, St.. Melba and Monetize came through in the straight. Billion beat ing St. Melba by a length, with Monetize a head away third. Speaiopa. Bissac and Australia were next. Billion won well, but St. Melba nnd Monetize were both going etrongly at ihe end. First Ruler and lootpad ran badly. In the Cavo Handicap Oral was a £''io better favourite than Retract, with Courtlike and Hunting Call fairly well backed. At the end of a furlong Courtlike and Hunting Call were in charge from Tobaccoland and Oral, with Ben Ilur leading the rest. Oral and Tobaccoland clored on the leaders in the straight, and ill a. good race to the judge Courtlike, Oral and Tobaccoland flashed past the post together, the margins being a head and a nose with the horses placed as named. Hunting Call was a, length away fourth, with Ben Hur, Retract, and Push next. C'onrllike just won. end owed her success to Reed's handling. Oral and Tobaccoland both ran good races. Tobaccoland improving a great deal.

Tho Opiiki Handicap Saw Bonogne. Rnmeses, Tcheka and .Toy Bird well backed in that order. Joy Bird led Teri, Tcheka *nd Rameaes at the half-mile, villi Bonognc sr,d Tiega next. One hundred yards from home T'ameses, Bouogne, Joy Bird and Teii were 1 in line, fighting hard. Haineses and Bonozne drew out in the last bit, Rnmeses winning by a head. Joy Bird was half a length away, witli Teri another length away. Then came Locarno, Spearmis3 and Tcheka. Miss Ransom and Borsalene Bhowed the way to Veronese and Quantum to the turn, with Last Crust a eouplo of lengths away. In the straight, the field closed up, and a furlong from home they were in line. Quantum headed off tho early leadors, but could not withstand Last Crust's challenge, and ♦he latter won by a long head. Veronese was two lengths nway, a length in front of Miss Ransom. Last Crust has not been in work long, but ho has lost none of bis pace in his three years' absence from tho turf. Quantum again ran a good race. Veronese is improving.
