WEEK-END WEATHER. HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. Tho following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. IT. M Vincent last evening:— Further unsettled weather is indicated, cloudy to overcast conditions ruling, with additional heavy rain, particularly in northern and cast coast districts. The rainfall in the north is likely to he torrential, and Hooded rivers arc expected. Scattered thunderstorms are indicated over the Auckland Province, especially near the east coast. Easterly to north easterly winds, moderate to strong, occasionally reaching gale force and squally at times. Rough to heavy seas on the east coast. Expect mild temperatures and humid atmospheres. The extensile tropical disturbance is moving slowly down the east coast, causing unsettled weather over a wide area. Barometric pressure shows a further decreasing tendency. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.70 in. Midnight, Thursday .. .. 29.8Uin. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —The cyclone is now centred north of the Bay of Plenty. A depression in the south-west Tasman is losing intensity. Pressure is still high at the Chatham Islands. Indications arc for south to east winds north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, strong m places; elsewhere freshening north-east to north winds. Still a considerable swell north of Kaikoura, but otherwise smooth to moderate seas. Moderate south to southeast winds in the north-east Tasman and light to moderate but freshening northerlies in the south-east portion. Smooth to moderate seas. Weather fair in tho western districts of tho South Island, but elsewhere cloudy with mist or fog in many parts. Further rain over tho North Island and parts of Marlborough and Canterbury, with some heavy falls in the north. Mild temperatures. RAINFALL RECORD.
