TROUBLE OVER POLES.

COUNCIL AND DEPARTMENT. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Friday. Considerable discussion ensued at the Whangarei County Council meeting today over the refusal of the Post and Telegraph Department (o remove poles on the Otangarei Road, where widening operations were in progress. After considering a legal opinion the council decided to give the department 14 days' notice to remove the poles, after which work will be commenced, and if the poles are not removed the council will tako action against the department for obstructing the road. In view of the extensive nature of the widening operations in hand and likely to be undertaken in the near future the council considered an important principle was involved, although the cost of the removal of the poles under discussion was only £3O.
