CONTROL OF HIGHWAYS.
NEW SYSTEM PROPOSED.
RESOLUTION AT RUNCIMAN. The Opaheke, Bombay-Karaka Ratepayers' Association at its last meeting aL Runciman, fully discussed the question of construction and maintenance of main highways. A resolution was passed to the effect that the association was of the unanimous opinion, now that adequate taxation was provided by means of motor taxation for the construction of the main highways, that the time had arrived when the main arterial highways of the Dominion from tho North Cape to the Bluff should be taken over by the Highways Board and their construction and maintenance entirely undertaken by the board. Reasons for this opinion were set out at length. Copies of the resolution are to be forwarded to the Prime Minister and Minister of Public Works.
