THE NEW COMMODORE.

OTHER CHANGES ANNOUNCED

WELLINGTON. Thursday

Captain Geoffrey Blake, D.5.0., R.N., cominodoro second class, who has been appointed (o suc<#eod Captain G. T. C. P. Swabey, D.5.0., R.N., as commodore in command of the Now Zealand Division of Iho Royal Navy, is due to arrive in New Zealand by tlie Rotorua early in SepIcmber. His arrival and (he actual change of command, which will in all probability take place at Wellington, will be the occasion of an interesting ceremony on board H.M.S. Dunedin. Captain Blake, who has a reputation in the Service of being a very brilliant officer, has had a distinguished career. Although the appointment of his successor has not yet been announced, it is understood that Paymaster-Commander E. N. R. Fletcher, M.8.E., R.N., who has been naval secretary to the New Zealand Naval Board, and the commodore's secretary since July, 1926, will bo returning to England when Captain Swabey relinquishes command of the Now Zealand Division.

Official advice has been received from England of tho appointment of Captain F. A. Sommcrville, D.5.0., R.N., to 11.M.5. Emperor of India in command and ns flag captain to Rear-Admiral H. K. Kitson, commanding the Third Battle Squadron of tho Atlantic Fleet. Captain Sommerville was formerly chief staff officer of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, and returned to England in 1926, when ho was succeeded by Captain C. N. Reyne, who is at present on his way Home.

Vice-Admiral A. G. Hotham, C.8., C.M.G., formerly commodore commanding tho New Zealand Division, was recently placed on the retired list at his own request. Sub-Lieutenant H. G. D. de Chair, late of 11.M.5. Laburnum, has left for Sydney, where ho will take up tho appointment of A.D.C. to his father, Admiral Sir Dudley do Chair, Governor of New South Wales. Sub-Lieutenant do Chair was succeeded in IT.M.S. Laburnum bv Sub-Lieutenant N. V. J. T. Thew, who arrived from England in the Tainui on Monday.,
