HIGH DAIRY YIELD.

ipKODUCTION IN PROVINCE.

NEW RECORD ASSURED.

OUTPUT FOR NINE MONTHS.

ADVANCE ON PREVIOUS SEASONS.

Tho wonderful manner in which Auckland's dairying pastures have responded to a favourable season climatically, and to more intensive cultivation, is revealed in the returns of butter and cheese received into store by tho " Auckland Farmery' Freezing Company. Tho butterfat production up to March 31 is 14.7 per cent, ahead of that for the same period of the previous season, is 18 per cent, over that of the corresponding nine months of the record season of 1926 27, and only 1.9 per cent, below tho total for the full 12 months of the record year. The next fortnight should see the record year eclipsed with two and a-half months of the season in hand.

This time last year the fields had not recovered from the prolonged spell of dry weather which characterised the summer, although production, which had dropped heavily in January and February, was beginning to pick up again. This season the rainfall has been evenly distributed and the pastures have been kept.in good heart, with consequent reflection in the amount of butter and cheese produced for export, the fall of the year not being so marked as on previous occasions. Sent forward to the works last month were 264,943 Ijoxes of butter and 17,772 crates of chcesey compared with 152,707 boxes and 13,512 crates in March, 1928. Reduced to terms of butter-fat the month's output for export was 8,904.2511b., against 8,042,5091b.

In tho nine months from July to March inclusive/ the works have handled 1,897,072 boxes of butter and 159,192 crates of/cheese, compared with 1,664,016 boxes and/ 131,654 crates in the corresponding period of the season of 1927-28. Converting these figures to butter-fat pounds for the purpose of easier comparison, this season's production so far totals 99,509,8641b., against 86,766,2621b., an increase of 12,743,6021b., or 14.7 per cent. In the record season, the output up to March 31 was 84,379,1281b., and for the 12 months which ended on June 30, 1927, it was 101,446,1731b. Shipments were maintained at a good rate last month, the works delivering 192,885 boxes and 20,992 crates, compared ■with 157,045 boxes and 21,223 crates in March last year. In slure on March 31, there were 68,713 boxes and 15,250 crates, against 138„502 boxes and 10,179 crates on the same clay last year.
