MENACING SITUATION.

AMERICAN TOWN SHELLED.

BATTLE ACROSS THE BORDER.

UNITED STATES MAY ACT.

Australian and N.Z Press Association. (Received April 3, 5.25 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Apri! 2.

There is a possibility of the United States being dragged into the Mexican civil war situation as the result of the shelling of the American town of Naco, Arizona, to-day in the course of a battle across the border.

Shells shattered several houses and an American subject was wounded. It is understood that, if necessary, American forces will not hesitate to cross the border to force the Mexicans back to a [joint from which there will bo no menace to American lives and property.
