EASTER HOLIDAY TOTAL.
INCREASE ON LAST YEAR.
FIGURES FOR NINE CLUBS
The sum total of betting at. nine race meetings in various parts of New Zealand during the Easter period approximated remarkably to that for the corresponding period of last year. Totr.lisator investments handled by the nine clubs this Easter amounted to £439,774 10s, the total for the same clubs last year being £438,791, thus showing an increaso of £983 10s.
The volume of speculation at Ellerslie was by far the largest, the investments amounting to £151,511 10s; compared with £171,945 last Easter. The decrease of £20,433 10s was also tho largest variation recorded in tho figures for any of tho nina clubs. The next largest amount was handled by the Canterbury Jockey Club, whose totalisator receipts were £75,077. Although this represented an increase of £7Bll, it was £76,434 10s less than the amount placed on the machine at Ellerslie. Following are details of totalisator investments at the nine'meetings during Easter, the figures for Easter, 1928, being shown in parentheses:—Auckland Racing Club, £151,511 10s (£171,945); Canterbury Jockey Club, £75,077 (£67,266); Feilding Jockey Club, £69,081 (4261,259); Riverton Racing Club, £53,631 (£60,444 10s); Wairarapa Racing Club, £48,085 (£34,469); Waipukurau Jockey Club, £19,375 (£18.556) ; Beaumont Jockey Club. £10,279 (£10,924 10s); Kumara Racing Club, £7470 (£7800); Tuapeka Jockey Club, £5265 (£6327); total, £439,774 10s (£438,791).
