RACES AT ELLERSLIE.

SECOND DAY'S MEETING.

For the second day's meeting of the Auckland Racing Club the weather was delightful—bright, sunny, with a slight nip when out of the sunshine, suggestive of the'close advent of winter. It was a day on which the new modes could safely make their appearance, and as a result, many charming effects were to be seen. A lingering touch of summer was still to bo seen, however, in frocks of floral crepe de chine and of georgette, but usually these were worn under a wrap or a coat. There were many tailored suits to be seen, mostly in varying shades of fawn and grey, and, as was forecasted, there is very little difference in the length of the skirt from that, of last winter. Well cut tweed coats, and coats in velour or plain heavy cloth trimmed with fur, were also very much worn, and some very handsome furs also made their appearance. A favourite material for frocks was ring velvet, some of their shadings in rich autumn tones being delightful. In hats black, curiously enough, was very largely worn either in | £elts or velour, and usually in small closefitting shapes. ilei Excellent Lady Alico Fergusson attended the races and wore a frock of brown crepe do chine patterned with autumn tinted flowers, a fur wrap and a brown felt hat trimmed with self-coloured flowers tinted with gold.
