Many star cricketers were seen in action at Moawhango during the weekend, when a Moawhango eleven captained by T. C. Lowry played a friendly match against 11. M. McGirr's team from Wellington.
Chapman,. tho English test team capfain, and Dr. R. Bettington, Now South "Wales representative, played for Moawhango, while there were Plunket Shield players in McGirr's team, including C. S. Dempster and K. C. James.
Tho match resulted in a draw. Moawhango batted first and compiled 255 runs, of which number Chapman contributed .109 before Dempster stumped him. The noted English cricketer gave an excellent display, and scored rapidly. His total included 14 fours and three sixes. T. C. Lowry made 24, G. Chrystall 25 and Dr. Bettington 23. The veteran E. G. Wilson captured five wickets, including the hat trick, and McGirr, S. Brice, Rotherliam, II Foley and K. C. James took one wicket each. When time was called McGirr's team had mado 215 runs and had one moro wicket to fall. The principal scorers wero K. James 38, 11. Foley 35, B. 11. Ross 30, C. Dempster 29, J. Patrick 14, S. Brice 12, and G Rotherliam 11. Chrystall took three wickets end T. C. Lowry, J. Whittle, R. Lowry, Dr. Bettington, Chapman and McConachie one each.
