MT. EDEN SWIMMING BATHS.
Sir, —The action of the Borough Council in proposing, to borrow £3500 for alterations to the baths, without putting the proposal before the ratepayers, will come as a surprise to a large number of ratepayers in the district. It is not very long ago since a- considerable sum was expended on these baths, which, by the way, only serve a very small number of the residents. Sir. Joll, reporting to the council, stated that this had been the best year they had had for many years, and that might be quite true and yet not be saying much. It would have been of more interest to the ratepayers to have stated how much profit or otherwise the baths had contributed, as a good many of us would be interested to know. I am satisfied that there should be no further loan money expended on these baths until the ratepayers are furnished with a full statement as to what they are costing them to maintain. J. Maginxess.
