MEREDITHS OF CANADA. [from our, own correspondent.] VANCOUVER, March e. Sir Vincent Meredith, chairman- of the Bank of Montreal, who diet! last week, was a member of a remarkable Canadian family. No fewer than six members of ib attained distinction. The eldest brother, Sir William Ralph Meredith, was leader of the Conservatives in the Ontario Legislature for 16 years. He would have been Premier had he nob gone to the Bench, where he served for many years as Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas. The second member of the family, Charles, a noted athlete in his youth, went on to the Stock Exchange in Montreal, md became cue of Canada s leading financiers. The third was Edmond, leader of the Ontario Bar. Fourth came Richard, "at present Chief Justice of the Ontario Court of Common Pleas. Sir Vincent wa3 fifth. He entered the Bank of Montreal in 1867, the year of Confederation. In 62 years' service, he became successively general manager, vice-presi-dent, president and chairman of the boar of directors. The sixth brother was a lawyer of distinction. The other branc of the family produced a Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Canada.
