NEW ZEALAND MEAT.

FROZEN SUPPLIES IN LONDON ABUNDANT AND IDENTIFIABLE. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. (Received March 18, .9.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 18. Mr. T. F. Gibson, president of the Levin Chamber of Commerce, arrived at Sydney to-day by the Moreton Bay. Ho said that although ho had travelled fairly extensively in England he had noticed very little Australian frozen meat. But New Zealand meat was there in abundance and plainly labelled.

CHEMICAL AMALGAMATION.

SHARLANDS AND YOUNGS. NO INCREASE OF CAPITAL. [BY TELEGRAM!.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Monday. A meeting of shareholders in Sharland and Co., Ltd., was held at the company's offices to-day, when, on the motion of tho chairman of directors, Mr. W. Watson, tho following resolutions were adopted:— That article 84 of the company's articles of association be amended by the substitution of the word " six " for the word " five." That the amount of the annual sum to be paid out of the funds of the company to the directors for their services, now standing at £650 a year, be increased to £750 a year. In moving the resolutions, the chairman said: " We are met to-day in consequence of the amalgamation of the Youngs Chemical Company with this company, which is to take place on April 1, part of the arrangement being that Mr. Arthur Young is to take a seat on our board, which renders necessary the resolutions. By agreement, we take over only those assets of tho Youngs Chemical Company which our directors deem advisable. The premises are retained by Messrs. Young under the provision that they are not to be used in competition with our trade.

" Our premises liere are ample for conducting the business of tho amalgamated interests, as well as probable future increases. Satisfactory financial arrangements have been made which preclude any necessity for an increase of capital. Your directors anticipate much beiuiit from the amalgamation, particularly as they are to have the valued advice and assistance of Mr. Arthur Young."

The Department, of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated March 16, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London : Tallow.—Spot market quiet and limited business for shipment. Present spot quotations arc:—Mutton: Fine. 44s 6tl per cwt; fair to good, 41s to 445: dark to dull, 38s to 395. Beef: Sweet and or mixed, 42s 3d to 445; fair to good, 39s 6d to 42s 6d: dark to dull, 38s to 38s 6d. Mixed: Fair to good. 39s to 425; dark to dull, 37s 6ci to 38s 6d; gut, etc., 36s to 38s. *

Hemp.—Manila : Market quiet and closes easier. "J" grade for April-June shipment now quoted at sellers, £37 ss. Output from January 1 to February 28, 318.000 bales, as against 231.000 bales in the same period last year. Stocks in Manila, 214,000 bales, as against 114,000 at the same time last year. Stocks in Great. Britain, 8646 bales, as against 14,186 bales. Sisal: Market quiet, but firm. Good marks difficult to obtain at. 1110 close, sellers holding out for £4l for No. 1, and £39 for No. 2, March-May shipment. New Zealand: Market quiet, with absence of demand, but no pressure to sell. Nominal comparative values for February-April and March-May shipments unchanged. Wo>l.—Sales continue with little better demand and slightly hardening tendency in crossbreds and halfbreds.

LONDON DAIRY PRICES. BUTTER MARKET STEADY. The London butter market is steady at 166s pet' cwt. for New Zealand after considerable activity at 1645, according to advico by cable received by Amalgamated Dairies, Ltd., under date London, March 16. Quotations arc:—Anchor, 168s; unsalted, 178s; Danish, 182s spot and 168s f.o.b. Deliveries of New Zealand last week totalled 1244 tons and 2627 tons remain in stock. Retail prices wero reduced as from yesterday to Is 8d per lb. for New Zealand and Is 9d for Danish. The cheese market is reported as quiet. Quotations are: —New Zealand, white, 88s; coloured, 89s to 90s; Canadian, matured, 106s to 110s; others, 94s upwards. Retail prices aro unchanged.

FORD MOTOR COMPANY.

SENSATIONAL SHARE RISE, Australian and N.Z. Press Association. NEW YORK. March 17. Shares in tho Ford Motor Company of Canada rose by 304 points on the Now York kerb market yesterday in one of tho most spectacular advances in the history of tho stock market. Tho cause was the overnight announcement of a proposed 20 for one "split-up" of tho stock. Although tho kerb market is accustomed to wild gyrations in this stock brokers nevertheless wore amazed when it opened with a transaction of 400 shares at £205. This represented a gain of nearly £4l and the stock continued to rise all day. Tho present stockholders will receive 20 shares for each old one, 19 of them being non-voting shares,.
