MORE HEAVY BUSINESS,

Another heavy volume of business was transacted on the Auckland Stock Excliango yesterday, when the tone was firm all round. Government securities ~and local body and commercial debentures met a keen market at current to advanced rates. Wellington Harbour Board debentures, 1940, per cent., .were done, at £IOO ;10s, compared with £9B at the last sale a considerable time ago. War Loans, 1938, 4£ per cent., rose five shillings to sell at £99 -15s, and Inscribed Stocks, 1938, per cent., advanced 2s 6d to sell at the same figure.

In banks Nationals of New Zealand sold again at £7 4s 6d, and New South Wales had two sales at £sl 15s, recovering to that level after several, transactions at £sl 12s 6d. Tho ordinary issue of New Zealands rose threepence to sell at 62s 9d, but the D mortgage issue, 20s paid, eased a penny halfpenny to change hands at 28s At the closo of tho Exchange, offers for both issues of New Zealands and for English, Scottish and Australians and Nationals of New Zealand were above Thursday's closing rates. In insurance New Zealands sold at the current rate, 48s. In loan and agency North Auckland Farmers' Co-operative, B pref., changed hands at 8s 9d, compared with 7s 6d in March. Dalgetys, Goldsbrough, Morts, and New Zealand Loan and Mercantiles were inquired for at advanced rates. In coal the ordinary issue of Renowns sold at 18s, and tho preference issue at 2s lOd, both current rates, and Taupiris impioved twopence to change hands at 25s 9d. «In shipping Devonport Steam Ferries sold a penny halfpenny easior at 24s 4£d. In timber Kauris had sale at 17s 6d, cornpared with 19s 3d in December. In breweries Staples, changed hands at 42s 9d, a shilling advance on the last local salo in November.

In tho miscellaneous section British Tobaccos had two sales at 49s 9d, threepence below the level of the last transaction. Taranaki Oils sold once at 6s 6d. More were offered at the price, but buyers declined to 6s Id. Sales were made on Thursday at 6s 9d aud 7s. Wilsons Cements, which sold at 41s, were ninepence cheaper. Blenheim Oils were offered at tho close of tho Exchange at £6, no buyers, compared with sellers £6 10s and buyers £5 10s the previous day. In mining the contributing issue of Lucky Shots changed hands at Bd. Ohiriemuris sold again at 8s 4d, and Waihis made two sales at 14s 3d and one at 14s 2d, compared with the last sale at 14s 6d.
