CARUSO'S ESTATE.
THE PHONOGRAPH ROYALTIES ITALO-AMERICAN CONFLICT. Chancellor Edwin Walker, of Trenton, New Jersey, has awarded to Gloria Caruso, the nine-year-old daughter of Enrico Caruso, two-thirds of the sum of £200,000, which has accrued to her late father's estate from phonograph records. Ho did this in defiance of an Italian Court, which had decreed that Gloria was to receive only one-half of the royalties, and that the balance was to bo divided between Mrs. Dorouhv Caruso, the girl's mother; Giovanni Caruso, brother of the tenor, and two of (lie singer's sons. In so far as the Italian decree does not conflict with American law, said the Chancellor, it would be recognised on the principles of international comity; but American law provided that a minor in a case of intestacy was to receive two-thirds of the property. He described tho action of the, Italian Court in ordering a different, distribution as " truly astonishing," and breathing defiance to the Court of Chancery of New Jersey." He added this his Court would not he intimidated by any threat of the Italian Court.
