WORK ON THE ROADS.
DECISIONS OF THE COUNCIL.
[BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PAPABOA. Thursday. The Otamate,a County Council met yesterday, Mr. R. Coates presiding. The following tenders for road work were let:—Bnrch-Lindquist Road, formation of 26 chains of 14ft. road, Mr. T. Dodds, £B7; Tinopai Beach Road, ; 19 chains of 16ft. road, Mr. L: Padget, £99; Ford Road, metalling 550 yds. The contractor, Mr. W. A. Judd, stated that he could not complete the work by February 28, and the contract has been relet to Mr. M. Maras, at 2s 7d per yard. Hie Kaiwaka-Oneriri Road, formation of SO chains of 14ft. road through LinneH's property, was let to Mr. D. Balderson, at £240. Messrs. M. N. Skelton and E. T. Birtles attended as a deputation on behalf of the North Kaipara Agricultural Society asking for remission on a reduction of rates on the show ground property, on the ground that the land was held and used for the public benefit and recreational purposes. The council consented to a reduction from £5 2s 8d to - 3 \ Mr J Keav wrote suggesting that the Mareretu riding should raise a loan of £2OOO to complete the Mametu e of Keay's deviation road. The council resolved that it could not recommend placing the loan proposal before the ratePa The S Main Highways Board wrote askinsr for details of the council s action reading regulation of traffic. The council recommended the appointment of an board asked for a list of localities where advertising hoardings adjacent to main highways tended to create a danger. This was left to the individual council members to report for each riding. It was notified that at its next meet " ing the District Highways Council wou.d consider the question of a review of main highways and the annual estimates. The County Council will deal with this matter at its next meeting. The Marine Department forwarded a copv of an Order-in-Council vesting management of the Mateotetawa Wharf in the Otamatea Council, and enclosing a letter approving the plan. The Audit Office wrote approving payments of fixed sumsi to councillors attending meetings. • The Whangarei County Council asked for the council's co-operation in having the annual grant allocation for the North Auckland district suitably increased. It was resolved to support the Whangarei Council in its request.
