NEW WATER SCHEME.
SUPPLY FOR PAPATOETOE.
CONTRACT FOR RESERVOIR.
The town district of Papatoetoe is soon to have an up-to-date water supply by which every street will be served. A contract has been let for the construction of a circular reservoir near the water supply on the summit of McLaughlin Mountain with a capacity of 130,000 gallons, sufficient to meet the needs of the district for some years to come, while further requirements will be met by provision of another reservoir within the town boundaries. Tho tender accepted is that of an Auckland firm, Messrs. Wilcox and Co., at the nrice of £1696, much below the estimate of tho board's engineers. Seven "nders were received, ranging from £1696 to £2962 A contract for the supply of an electric pump aild motor has since been lot at £367. The power lines are already being p« In, in crier that ttc contractors may make use of tho supply during the progress of tho work. Tenders mil soon be called for the laying of pipes, which will total 19 miles. Water should be available to residents witlnn the town boundary about next July and the entire scheme is expected to bo completed within a Debentures will be issued by the board in accordance with a loan of authorised by the ratepayers for the purpose. It is not pr6posed to raise moie than £6OOO during the next few months.
