PEANUTS SAVE SHIP.

FRENCH VESSEL IN STORM.

CARGO USED IN FURNACES.

LONDON, Jan. 20. Tons of peanuts shovelled into the furnaces saved the French cargo steamer Belgrano (4943 tons), says tho Marseilles correspondent of tho Daily Mail. Tho vessel, bound from Beirut, exhausted all her coal in fighting ai terrific gale, and it was then that the cargo of peanuts was broached, which enabled the Belgrano to make port in tho teeth of the storm.

Many steamers bound for Marseilles were delayed by tho gale.
