WHAT THE CRITICS SAY.

EULOGIES FOR HAMMOND.

WONDER CRICKETER OF TO-DAY.

JARDINE A DESPAIR TO BOWLERS

Australian and N.Z, Pres3 Association. LONDON, Feb. 5. Commenting on the fourth test cricket match iat Adelaide Mr. P. F. Warner says the position at present is in favour of England. Some people grumble at the slowness of the scoring, but they fail to realise that field tactics have developed tremendously. Hammond is tho wonder cricketer of the present day. He looks like surpassing Grace and Hobbs, and by the end of the Australian tour he will be another Alexander fiighing for more worlds to conquer. Warner says he believes that within 10 years Hammond is destined to do things which will cause men to say another champion from Gloucestershire has arrived. He says ho always regarded Jardino as a rock on which the Australian bowlers would split. His runs were worth more than actual figures because he has a cool head, a perfect defence and an array of strokes which bring despair to the bowler. He commends White and Tate for their bowline;. Mr. Clem Hill cables:—"l take off my hat to Hammond. His every stroke is without indecision and his footwork, is perfection. The more I see of him tho more I realise that he has tho test match temperament, and what is more important, his heart is in the right place.

Hill says he fears A'Beckett is not at present quite sufficient class for an opening bowler. The Australian fielding is safe but lacks brilliancy.
