WEEKLY WESTFIELD SALE.

DECLINE IN BEEF VALUES.

STEADY DEMAND THROUGHOUT.

Thore was o steady demand throughout at the weekly fat stock sale at Westfield yesterday, but in consequence of the increased entry there was a decline in values for beeft extra choice ox selling at 41s, which is 2s less than last week's rate. Choice and prime ox sold up to 40s, compared with 42s 6d the previous weok. Heavy cattle was affected to tho greatest extent.

Sheep were yarded in moderate numbers and sold readily, last week's advance in values boing sustained in most classes.

Lambs came forward in average numbers and sold at the level of last week's sale.

An average number of calves was offered, values being firm at late quotations.

There was a large yarding of pigs, all classes except stores selling readily. Values were firm and improved for baconers.

WELLINGTON, Wednesday,

Messrs. Wright. Stephenson-and Company report on the Johnsonville sale held. to-day as follows:—At the sale of store stock there was a yarding of- 31QQ ewes, lambs and wethers, mostly ewes. Buyers . were present from the Rangitikei, Man&watu, Horowhenua and Hutt districts, and the bulk of the yarding was purchased to go to the districts mentioned. Bidding throughout the sale was keen and spirited. A total clearance 1 was effected. Prices for all classes of stock showed a considerable advance on those ruling at last year s fixture, and were generally speaking above the average prices ruling for similar classes of stock at country sales.

Some of tli© lines sold wore as follown: Four and six-tooth ewes, to 355; four-year ewes, to 29s Hd; five-year ewes, to 26s 3d; two-tooth wethers, to 26s 6d; lambs, to 23s lOd: rams, Southdowns, to 4°; ms; Romney. to 3}?ns; dairy cows, £6 12s 6d to £lO 10s; horses, hacks, £2 to £6 6s.

At the Add in gt on market to-day entries generally were heavier, particularly in the store sheep section. Fat sheep and fat lambs were also more numerous and fat cattle about the same. Store Sheep.—There was a heavy ewe entry, including lines from Marlborough and the West €oast and several excellent lines of young well-bred Romney cross sheep from Poverty Bay. A keen sale took place for all ewes of class, t which showed an advance, other sorts being unaltered. All but a few exceptional lambs sold at Is 6d easier. Best lambs sold to 33s lOd; prime, 29s Gd to 32s Gd: medium lambs. 27s to 295; night lambs. 25s to 2Gs Gd. Fat Sheep.—Ten races camo forward, compared with eight at recent sales. There was an all-round easing of up to Is Gd a head. Exporters bought a small proportion of classes suitable for the trade. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 40s Id: prime heavy wothers, 31b to 345: medium wethers. 28s 6d to 30s Gd; light wethers, 26a to 28s; extra prime ewes, to SGs lOd: prime eweß, 20s to 80s: medium ewes, 22s to 255: light ewes. 19s to 21b Gd; aged ewes. lGs to 18s Gd.

Fat Cattle.—A total of 405 was yarded. The quality was mixed. Values were bolter by up to Is Gd per lOOio for the bettor classes, other sorts being unchanged.
