COLLISION WITH TRAIN.
MOTORIST WRONGLY ON LINE.
PENALTY OF £2 IMPOSED. [BV TELEGRAPH- —OWN CORRESPONDENT- J HAMILTON. Wednesday. A fino of £2 was imposed on a young man, Frederick Sydney Weatherley, in the Magistrate's Court to-day, for passing over tho Victoria Street railway crossing in a car while the line was engaged. Defendant said the night was darlwJind it was raining at the time. Thejfrffm was partly' over tho street when the car collided with it. , Tho magistrate said it looked as if tho accident might have been caused through confusion with the street and train light*, 110 added that ho did not know that more could be done to make the Victoria Street crossing safe for traffic, either by the provision of a wig-wag warning signal, or sliding or swinging gate 3. , Tho magistrate said some motorists would run into tho gates. It was a psychological study to discover how to stop people from running into trains.
