QUEEN STREET CONCRETING
Matters relating to tlio main highways •through the Northcoto Borough were discussed with tho members of tho Main Highways Board now on tour.
Mr. A. E. Jull. deputy-chairman of tlie board, informed a deputation from the Borough Council that a subsidy of pound for pounc toward the concrete paving of Queen Street had been agreed upon in respect to oxpendituro from April 1 last. As soon as the amount had been definitely ascertained from tho figures submitted by "Mr A. Grevillo Walker, the council's engineer for tho work, formal intimation would bo forwarded and the grant paid
With respect to tho request for an in creased subsidy for the reconstruction and concrete paving of Lake and Onewa ltoads, to complete the gaps between the northern and western boundaries, and so ink up with tho concrete roads being laid through the Waitemata County in both directions. Mr. Jull promised that consideration would be given at a full meeting on tho return of the members to Wellington. Tho question was largely ono of policy, as about 93 other boroughs were claiming special treatHient. • It was stated a subsidy ot £2 for £1 would bo paid in respect of the extra cost ot maintenance of detour roads durinir thejoribd.Onewa Road was closed on Recount of concrete foading aotk.
