OBSERVATION FROM AEROPLANE
RETURN OF THE SUPPLY SHIP,
The discovery of 14 hitherto unknown mountain peaks in the Antarctic is 're. ported by Commander Richard Byrd in a wireless message received yesterday by Sir. Richard G. Brophy, second in command of the expedition, who is iu Auct< land.
The wireless message stated"Dis» covered 14 new mountain peaks on flight yesterday (Monday)." Tho discovery of such a large number of mountains seems to indicate that an entire new mountain rango has been found. It i$ not likely that fuller particulars will b$ received in Auckland for several days. A further message from the expedition slates tho Eleanor Boiling was. to leave yesterday morning and will probably arrive at Dunedin on February 15. Mr< •; Brophy will leave for Dunedin on Sunday; evening to supervise the loading of the Eleanor Boiling, which will sail on th« 1 return journey to tho Antarctic on Febru* ary 17. Mr. Brophy will then return ta 9| Auckland.
Mr. Brophy has received an invitation from tho Auckland Harbour Board touring both the Eleanor Boiling and the City of New York to Auckland when they arrive to winter in the Dominion. He ; inclined
to consider tho proposal favourably oq account of the better climate. Even if the* ships wore moved here the majof supnly base would bo left at Dunedin.
