FREEZING WORKS TROUBLE.

DUTIES OF SLAUGHTERMEN.

DEVELOPMENT AT BELFAST.

[BIT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday.

Trouble appears likely to develop in the freezing works as a result of tlio refusal of the men in some works to place a neck string on the carcases as stipulated in the terms of the current award. The contention of tlio men is that this is no part of a slaughterman's task. The purpose of the neck string is to pull the neck down and keep the fore shanks in a line with the carcase. The effect is to keep the carcase in shape and to reduce tlio amount- of spaco it takes up. At both the Belfast works yesterday the men refused to attach tlio neck string and it is understood that tlio same troublo occurred at tlio Burnside works, Dunedin. A notico has been posted at each of the Belfast works by the employers advising the men that unless they agree to attach the neck strings 011 Monday no killing will take place.
