CAPSIZE OF FOUR BOATS.

SMART RESCUE OF CREWS.

Four boats capsized in the harbour on Saturday afternoon while taking part in the Takapuna Boating Club's races for small classes.

A strong north-easterly breeze was blowing which made conditions very trying for the crews. When spinnakers were brought into use a large number of boats became out of hand.

Shortly before the start of the race for 18ft. boats, Xgaire, owned and sailed bv Mr. W. Potter, of Devonport, had her mainsheet jammed, resulting in the .boat capsizing. The crew was rescued by Mr. A. Braund's launch Mavis B.

Scud, owned by Mr. W. Wilson, of Grey Lynn, came to grief early in the race for class V, her crew being picked up by the launch Fantorae, owned by Mr. A. Wiiletts.

The 14ft. boat Jupiter, owned by Mr. T. Scott, of Devonport, v. hen leading in the race for her class, turned turtle through her spinnaker skying. Mr. J. J, Mackay's launch Hanene v.as soon on the scene and picked up the crew. The last boat to capsize was the Z class boat lola, owned by Mr. E. Kimberley, who, together with his forward hand, ivas landed safely on board Mr. P. Carter s launch Helen C.

A number of minor mishaps were also reported in the races held by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
