AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. THE SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. COMPLETION OF xFIRST ROUND. PONSONBY'S USEFUL LEAD. The first round of matches in the [Auckland Cricket Association's senior championship competition was concluded on Saturday. The weather was dull though fine, and the wickets in good order, with the result, the batsmen held the upper hand throughout the afternoon. Pain set in shortly before six o'clock, causing an early cessation of play. Two of the games at Eden Park were drawn, Y.M.C.A. and Parnell, which had made tig totals on the first day, being unable to dispose of United Suburbs and Eden respectively. Ponsonby and Grafton gained first innings victories over University and North Shore. Ponsonby's win again places the side at the head of the championship list, and it has a useful lead with which to commence the second series of matches. Two centuries were scored at Eden Park, J. E. Mills making 129 not out for Eden against'Parnell, and L. J. Monteith contributing 101 to Ponsonby's total against University. S. G. Smith (Ponsonby), H. D. Gillespie (Eden), M. Webster and C. Kerr (United Suburbs), and A. S. Player and J. T. Bush (North Shore) all passed the half-century mark.
