The engagement is announced of Miss May Speirs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Speirs, of Avonglado, Avonsidc, to Mr. Harry Dykes, of Auckland. The marriage will take place in Christchuicli in August or September, and Miss SpCiis will make her home in Auckland. Miss Speirs* removal to Auckland will be a severe loss to Canterbury t«nnis v as she is the outstanding lady player in iSew Zealand, and has helped to maintain tennis in the province at a high standard. Sho has held the New Zealand sing?" championship three times. With Miss Wake, she holds the New Zealand doubles championship, and with C. Angas the combined championship. Miss Soeirs also holds the Canterbury ladies' singles championship, and, with Miss Prjtcliett, U?o ladies' doubles championship. i
