WORKMEN ON STILTS.
INSTEAD OF SCAFFOLDING. The introduction of 6ft. stilts for building workers, to do away with costly scaffolding, surprised workers on a contract in Toronto recently. They refused to mount tho stilts, reported tho matter to their union, and were dismissed from their employment. " Wo have never hoard of such n thing in tho building industry," declared Mr. W. Varloy, secretary of tho Building Trades Council of Toronto, who took up tho matter on bohalf of the dismissed workmen.
" Probably tho next thing we shall hear is that painters and sheet metal workers aro to bo placed on stilts," added Mr. Varley, who was investigating whether the use of stilts is n contravention of tho building regulations.
