CHAMPION SWIMMER.
RESIDENCE IN AUCKLAND. The New Zealand distance champion and Olympic representative swimmer, Mr. H P. Lindsay, will shortly take up his residence in Auckland. He has been appointed an assistant master in the new secondary department of the Dilworth School, Epsom. Mr. Lindsay returned to Wellington, where he has resided since his return from the Olympic Games, by the limited express last evening. Interviewed before his departure, he said he would return to Auckland on January 21, the date of the Auckland-championships, but he was not sure whether he would be a competitor in those championships. He will probably represent Auckland in the New Zealand national championships at Wellington in February, but may only be able to defend his ono mile and 220 yds. titles, as his new duties will interfere with his participation at the meeting over a longer length of time. Seen in training at the Tepid Baths last evening the champion swam impressively, and it appears that he will have no difficulty in retaining his titles. ]n Wellington swimming circles he was expected to win the token of swimming premiership in the Dominion, the Yaldhurst Shield, at present held by the Canterbury Centre, for the capital city. He will be a valuable acquisition to local swimming, and his presence here should give the sport a great impetus.
