That, women are becoming physically the superior of t he sexes as a result of the vogue for short skirts, and that men arc advised to take to wearing "shorts" if they wish to maintain their traditional "superiority" are views seiiously ad vanced by Dr. Kpliriam Mulford, president ol the Medical Society of Ainv Jersey, at a conference of the Tri-State Medical Association. "To-day our American women arc in better physical condition than our men," he added. "And while there are many reasons we might credit one to tho fact that women do not wear too mtuiy clothes, especially in the summer. Their garments, light in weight and light in colour, permit the ultra-violet ray of the sun to give its full benefit. Men, in their dark clothes which completely cover tliein from nock to ankle, am denied this energy. "Women are learning how to relax. While they go whole-heartedly into an increasing number of activities, from home to politics, they realise the importance of once in a while taking a complete rest ; and often t.luit time is when they are baring a manicure or a marcel wave. Men do not rest, even when they tiro being shaved, for (he barber pre vents their complete peace of mind. "Whatever the reason or reasons, women are demonstrating without fear of contradiction that they are stronger. They can stand lun;* swims in icy water, ihey can play tennis from sun-up to sun-down, and they live longer than men."
